Mike Ruscica, besides just being a great guy, was hugely instrumental to helping unlock my understanding of the opportunities, and pitfalls, investing in subordinate lien positions (primarily 2nd’s). Not only did Mike help me understand how to analyze a deal to determine the risks and IF there is an opportunity, he also helped me understand the benefit and creative ways to work with a sub- or non-performing borrower – and still have a profitable deal for the investor. He is compassionate with both the borrower and the investor – and incredibly helpful to those of us stumbling through the maze of solution development. If I had not been introduced to Mike, I would not now be investing in 2nd’s (and sometimes even 3rd’s). His passion for this investment strategy got through to me (even though I resisted!) – and I’m glad it did!
